Club Officers

President  – Val Down

valThis is my 2nd time as President of The Rotary Club of Eastleigh, having been its 1st lady President in 2012/2013.This was a tremendous honour and I thoroughly enjoyed my year in office.

I had joined Eastleigh Rotary in January 2009 and during my  time here, I have enjoyed meeting fellow Rotarians and their families and made some great friends.

You learn more about Rotary by taking on some jobs so I have been Secretary and also International Chair, looking out for any disaster appeals with the provision of Water Boxes and Shelter Boxes when needed. I was also the Shoebox co-ordinator – organising the collection of filled boxes from local schools & businesses, now handled by Rotarian jackie Percival.

My 2nd year as President coincides with me slowing down my training business  – Act-On Business Solutions Ltd but I still keep in touch with past clients and run various networking events in the local area. I am extremely busy but I enjoy the fellowship of Rotary and would encourage anyone to give it a try either as a member or as a friend of Rotary. Check out the “Friends” page.

President Elect – Martin Ward

bioFollowing a varied career in agricultural and biological research, I retired and rather than being just a Friend of Rotary and helping, on the odd occasions when I could, I joined Eastleigh Club as a full member in 2013. And, as they say, “I have never looked back!” In 2015 I became Membership Secretary, ran Interest Meetings, produced a Members’ Information leaflet and revamped the membership database.  I enjoy the wonderful fellowship and meeting the fantastic people that make Rotary, but using the Club to help people in the local community and further afield is a huge appeal. I was flattered to be asked to become President in 2017-2018 and am enjoying my time as President Elect this year learning the ropes. For the rest of my time, I am a Churchwarden at St Peter’s Church Boyatt Wood; I also enjoy walking, especially in the hills; and have a passion for gardening when I can fit it in.

Immediate Past President – Mike Smith

My involvement has been full and exciting by three times being President. I have served on various committees and also became District Governor in 2006/07.

In 2003, I took a team of 4 professionals to Hong Kong and Macau for 5 weeks and their task was to find out about both cultural and professional experience in that part of the world. One task was to teach young Chinese children in mainland China, where we stayed with local families.

During my time in Rotary, my wife and I have travelled the world, attending many clubs in America, South Africa, Australia, Italy, Hong Kong & Macau. During these visits, we have seen many great service projects and met even more fantastic friends.

Being in Rotary has given me a chance to put something back into the community. This has provided me great satisfaction and no matter how large or small, I know it has been of significance to the recipients. It has also enabled me to have friends in over 50 countries and these friendships last forever.

If you are interested in joining an organisation that allows you to “put something back,” to make friends and gain a great deal of pleasure, then come and visit us at Eastleigh Rotary.

Mo Mariner – Secretary & President Nominee

moOriginally from Winchester, but now residing in Chandlers Ford. It was my aim when I became fully retired to take on some sort of charity work, where I can help those in need. As a ‘Friend’ of the club I soon became aware that it suited me, and I joined Eastleigh Rotary in March 2012. I Looked after the shoe box appeal from 2013 until 2015. In the latter part of 2015 I began my training as Assistant Secretary to Val Down. My role in 2016/17 is Secretary for President Val Down, and our club. During 2017/18, I will continue to be Secretary when Martin Ward becomes our President, and will then follow on in 2018/19 as President.
I enjoy my work with Eastleigh Rotary, and I have made many friends, and I love the fellowship involved with the club.

Treasurer – John Stephens

john-stephens-2I joined Rotary in November 1993 and was almost immediately appointed Rotoract Officer and, also, at the request of District Governor and club member, Charles Shakeshaft, I became the District Auditor, a post I held for about 8 years.

I have been President of Eastleigh Rotary 3 times, Secretary for 5 years and am currently Treasurer and Compliance Officer.

I joined Rotary in 2008 following retirement having held various sales and sales management positions working for FTSE 100 companies within the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare sectors for over 30 years.  In the past six years since joining Rotary, I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the fellowship within the Club, as well as having the opportunity to give something back to the community in which my wife and I have lived since the early 1980s.  Prior to becoming President 2014-2015, I was the Sports Officer for three years arranging the Club’s participation in various competitions within the District, so it seemed sensible to take up this responsibility again. Outside of Rotary, I enjoy spending time with my family and acting as Chief Timekeeper at motor racing events throughout the UK.
